“Designing the Web” column
MacWEEK/eMediaWeekly

The Job
MacWEEK asked me to write a monthly column covering issues in Web design.

The Solution
Beginning in 1997, I wrote “Designing the Web” for MacWEEK, continuing when the magazine changed its name and format to become eMediaWeekly, until the magazine stopped publishing in 1999. I was responsible for selecting the topics and letting readers know what was important, interesting, or controversial that month in Web design.

Topics included:
• The browser wars
• Dynamic HTML
• Plug-ins
• Defining audience needs
• Giving up control over your design
• Page layout programs for HTML
• Macromedia Flash
• The importance of XML
