Elements of Web Design
The Job
In 1995, the Web began to explode, and designing for the new medium became an exciting but intimidating opportunity for working designers. While writing articles on Web design for magazines such as Online Design, Print, and U&lc, I conceived the idea of a book that would demystify the new medium. I brought in YO Designs Maria Giudice and Lynne Stiles to provide creative direction for the book, and pitched it to Peachpit Press.
The Solution
Elements of Web Design provided a visual, practical guide to designing for the Web. While the running text provided background information and described the issues involved, four-color illustrations showed the technologies in action. Quotes from leading Web designers provided expert guidance, while HTML guides and glossary entries on the page provided backup reference.
The book went through two best-selling editions and became a popular textbook for Web design classes.
