Adobe Master Class:
Web Site Redesigns
The Job
Once the first wave of Web publishing had washed past, people began looking critically at their first efforts and wondering how to improve their current Web sites. Peachpit Press contracted with me to write a book on refining and redesigning Web sites.
The Solution
Web Site Redesigns appeared as part of the Adobe Master Class series: a set of books that looked over the shoulder of expert practitioners to see how they carried out their work. I searched the Web for examples of redesigned sites in a variety of categories, interviewed their designers, and wrote the stories of the thinking and the process behind sites ranging from a one-man operation (Refdesk.com) to IBM.coms multi-year program of scheduled upgrades. The profiles show how the thinking is the same or different when designing for children (brainpop.com), business travelers (trip.com), or any other audience.
As usual in my books, graphics carried half the informational weight, providing examples of the kinds of documents design studios produce to plan and approve designs, as well as colorful screenshots of the results. I provided the internal design as well as the content.

Recommended. There are a lot of gems in these case studies.
Jakob Nielsen, Useit.com
An extraordinary book-practical, useful, and an education in itself.
Communication Arts
One of the best introductions I've seen to the conceptual process behind Web design...more readable than many contemporary novels....The book will benefit any communicator, through any medium, who wants to look at the process of connecting ideas with people.
